The last couple of days have been notable mainly for the big numbers of seabirds in feeding frenzies along our coast from North Cliff to Reighton, consisting of several thousand Kittiwakes and hundreds of terns. Of the latter, two Black Terns were inshore off the Gap today (in what has been a bumper couple of weeks for this species locally), with upwards of 100 Common, 20 Sandwich and a further 100 ‘commics’. A Little Egret was the Dams.

Yesterday (27th), two Black Terns were north of the Brigg, with counts of 178 Arctic, 73 Sandwich and 77 Common on it (as well as a good cast of waders, including a Purple Sandpiper and 12 Whimbrels). A Bittern showed well at the Dams for much of the day, 13 Bonxies and four Arctic Skuas passed the Gap among the feeding frenzies, and single Wheatear and Whinchat were on Carr Naze. The Dams and East Lea continue to hold a good selection of waders, including e.g. up to six Black-tailed Godwits and 15 Dunlins. A Little Ringed Plover was on Carr Naze Pond yesterday.
