Slow going, as expected at this time of year, with the expected improvement in Common Scoter and Manx Shearwater passage at sea and very little on the land. The pick of Common Scoter counts were 88 north and 30 south today, 11=22 north yesterday and 62 north on 24th, with notable Manxie counts of 34 on 22nd and single figures on all other days. The season’s first two Sooty Shearwaters went north on 24th.

Two European Storm-petrels were retrapped on the night of 23rd, including the infamous ’67’ – more to follow on this on the website soon. Up to 15 Teal, a Wigeon and a Shoveler are frequenting the Dams and East Lea. Other species trickling through include Black-headed Gulls (including odd juveniles at the Dams), up to ten Lapwings at the same site, Curlews (with single figures through on most days), odd Red-throated Divers, double figures of Puffins, and Grey Herons (with up to six at the Dams).
