Pied Flycatcher, Dams (Mark Pearson)

Pied Flycatcher, Dams (Mark Pearson)

A mostly sunny day with a moderate to brisk southerly wind which delivered plenty of interest. Highlights included a Red Kite south over the Country Park (MJP, IR) and a Black Redstart briefly at the Yacht Club (CW), plus firsts of the year in the shape of an Arctic Tern in the bay, a male Pied Flycatcher at the Dams and a Garden Warbler at East Lea.

Cuckoos were at East Lea, the Yacht Club and the Dams, while Swifts arrived en masse, with a minimum of 230 today (after no more than four on previous days). Four Greenland-type Wheatears  were in the Carr Naze area. Two Common Sandpipers and a pair of Pochard dropped into East Lea, where three Yellow Wagtails went through (with three more elsewhere).
