Our Species List
Both the English names & scientific names used, and the species order reflect the latest British official list, as published by the BOU online (The British List 2022).
The BOURC continues to publish English vernacular names in current usage in its updated British Lists. As these are most familiar to British birders, we use them here.
All rare and unusual species have been submitted to the British Birds Rarities Committee and/or Yorkshire Naturalists’ Union Ornithological Section Reports Committee and are entered here subject to acceptance by those bodies. In addition, local rarities are only included following receipt of an acceptable written record. BBRC, YNU & FBOG description rarities are indicated by these acronyms after the species’ name.
Status summaries are given for all species and indicate frequency since the inception of FBOG in 1977. For uncommon species the total number of records are given.
