The season’s first Marsh Harrier flew west at Newbiggin, 25 Whimbrels went south over Carr Naze in the late afternoon, an Arctic Skua, four Sanderling and 10 Manxies were the best of the sea, a Pintail, a Little Egret and a Shoverl were at East Lea, while the highlight of the day was undoubtedly the White-letter Hairstreak that was found feeding by the pines at the top of Long Lane.

Yesterday (26th), two Minke Whales were off the Brigg, over-sea passage included 15 Black-tailed Godwits, 85 Dunlin and 25 Redshank, East Lea hosted three Black-tailed Godwits, the Sams hoasted a further 10 and three Little Egrets, and a single Grey and four Yellow Wagtails were at Carr Naze Pond. The story of the day again related to insects, however, with a sudden influx of c65 Small Red-eyed Damselflies across waterbodies in the recording area. 25th saw a Ruff and six Snipe at East Lea, and two Grey and five Yellow Wagtails at Carr Naze Pond, while two juvenile Shelduck have commuted between the Dams and East Lea throughout.
