An unseasonably mild few days (set to continue) has seen more activity generally, with that classic sign of early spring, Pink-footed Goose return migration, figuring recently (and especially today). A total of 770 moved through in multiple skeins today, with lesser numbers on previous days and a single bird at the Dams.

Chiffchaff, Dams (Judith Henley)

A Red Kite was over Primrose Valley yesterday, while at the Dams, seven Gadwall, a male Common Pochard, 13 Tufted Ducks, 14 Coot, a pair of Mute Swans, up to three Chiffchaffs, two Snipe and an adult Lesser Black-backed Gull, 180 Common Gulls and 130 Black-headed Gulls were also present today.

In the Brigg area, the Velvet Scoter, up to six Common Scoters, two Great Northern Divers, up to 20 Red-throated Divers and up to 45 Purple Sandpipers are still present. Early butterfly sightings have ncluded a Small Tortoiseshell on Carr Naze and a Comma in a provate garden, both yesterday.
