On 1st a long-staying Short-eared Owl was perched on a post in the Rocket Post field. Three fresh juvenile Mediterranean Gulls were in the bay corner and an adult on Filey Sands. Two juvenile Garganey, 1 Green Sandpiper, 2 Common Sandpiper, 3 Dunlin, 1 Snipe, and 1 Little Ringed Plover were in our wader hotspot East Lea. Successful breeding species at Primrose Valley pond included Oystercatcher, Coot, Moorhen, Tufted Duck (2 pairs, 6 and 7 young) and Little Grebe (minimum of 1 stripey chick seen in reeds). On 2nd 15 Turnstones, 7 Dunlin, 2 Sandwich Terns, an Arctic Tern, 4 juvenile Little Egrets, 2 Ringed Plovers, 2 Sanderlings, a Knot, a Whimbrel, a Purple Sandpiper, a Grey Heron and a Great Crested Grebe were at the Brigg. On 4th a Great White Egret flew south over the Brigg.  85 Swifts were over Clarence Drive playing field in the evening. A cream crown Marsh Harrier flew south low over a garden at Hunmanby Gap on 5th. On 6th 100 Sandwich Terns roosted on the Brigg. The first Black-tailed Godwits were at East Lea.  A juvenile Yellow Wagtail was in front of East Lea hide on 9th. Another Marsh Harrier flew south over clifftop at Hunmanby Gap on 10th, and another on 11th at Filey Dams. Painted Lady butterflies were recorded. A ringed Kittiwake was on the Brigg (Yellow plastic ring on the left leg below knee with XOX). On 12th two Greenshank, 1 Wood Sandpiper and two Garganey at Filey Dams. 40 Common Scoter were in the bay on 13th. Small parties of Whimbrel flew south mid-month, noted at Hunmanby Gap. Six Green Sandpipers were at Filey Dams on 14th, and a Hobby north at Hunmanby Gap. 22 Long-tailed Tits were on the flood alleviation path near Short Hedge. On 16th a Bar-tailed Godwit and a Knot were in bay corner. A Hobby was chasing hirundines over the church then north, and a Hen Harrier flew over Carr Naze then south. 100 Lapwing were at East Lea. On 17th a 2nd calendar year Caspian Gull was on rocks by seawatch hide on Brigg. Identified by pale head, long narrow black bill, long pink legs and dark tertials with narrow pale fringes. A Marsh Harrier flew west at back of East Lea, and two Little Egrets dropped in to Filey Dams from height. A Ruff was at East Lea on 18th. Five Little Egrets were at East Pool. A Hobby flew through a garden north at Hunmanby Gap. On 19th a possible Bridled Tern went north. Two juvenile Caspian Gulls were in bay corner. Twenty-five Ringed Plover were at East Lea, with two Wood Sandpipers, 1 Little Ringed Plover, 2 Greenshank, 1 Ruff, 1 Common Sandpiper and 2 Green Sandpiper. On 20th a Willow Warbler was flitting about on Carr Naze. A Great White Egret came in off at East Lea. 28 Ringed Pover were also there. A Hobby flew north at Hunmanby Gap. On 21st Whinchat, Whitethroat, 3 Yellow Wagtails and 115 Lapwing were at Hunmanby Gap. A Willow Tit began a long stay at East Lea. Another Hobby flew north along Carr Naze on 23rd. A Kingfisher was at Filey Dams. Two Pintail were also there. A Hobby was seen over town. 120 House Martin were at Donkey Bridge. On 26th a Corn Bunting was at East Lea. A Migrant Hawker, Small Red-eyed Damselfly and 3 Common Darter were around a garden pond at Hunmanby Gap plus 4 Swift and 3 more Ringed Plover south there. Off Carr Naze, 25 Manx Shearwater, 1 Sooty Shearwater, 3 Little Gulls, 2-300 commic terns, 1 light phase Arctic Skua, and 1 adult Long-tailed Skua were seen. On 27th a Wheatear was at the end of Carr Naze, and an adult Roseate Tern was off the Brigg. At Filey Dams on 28th five Little Egret, seven Grey Heron, and a Green Sandpiper. East Lea had 15 Black-tailed Godwit, a Ruff, a Greenshank, two Snipe, three Wood Sandpiper, five Green Sandpiper, six Ringed Plover 6, Dunlin 17 & 14 Curlew east. 21 Pied Wagtail on main car park at Country Park. Mostly juveniles. Ten Roseate Terns were with 600 commics on and around the Brigg. On 29th two Tawny Owls Another Hobby was chasing hirundines on the Country Park. The month’s second Hen Harrier flew south over Carr Naze. On 30th a cream crown Marsh Harrier flew north over dams, with a single Swift at East Lea. A Caspian Gull was off Coble Landing and an Arctic Skua was in the bay. A possible Brown Booby flew south off Brigg with Gannets.  22 Grey Partridge were in a field west of the Tip on 31st.
