A quiet month, with most of the action on the sea. The year started with the usual suspects: Great Northern Divers in the bay plus 36 Wigeon, 2 Teal, and one Great Crested Grebe. There were 1150 Herring Gulls, 300 Black-headed Gulls and 50 Common Gull in the dusk roost off Hunmanby Gap. Five Woodcock

Water Rails featured often during the month. The Cetti’s Warbler remained all month. A Bar-tailed Godwit was on the beach on 1st. Two Great Northern Diver went north offshore at Hunmanby Gap on 1st. A large Pipit at Carr Naze flew towards Rocket Pole field calling like a Richard’s Pipit. Ringing Weekends 8-9 & 15-16 October

Seabirds and waders were particularly notable this month. Low water levels at Filey Dams and East Lea pulled in some good waders. A quiet month as expected, but waders and some summer visitors were starting their return journeys south. On 1st two juvenile Tawny Owls were in Martins Ravine.
