In this first week of ‘lock-down’ it has been difficult in not letting the mind wander to spring migration on the coast and to start reminiscing on years gone by. For those of you who are lucky to live locally enough to do your daily exercise walk along the coastal paths or reserve at Filey, you must be noticing a big difference in the lack of noise pollution and disturbance whilst looking at the sea – I envy you. However, we must abide by the guidelines if we are to beat this virus and get things back to how they were, so my daily walk will continue to be a circular path around the fields at Cayton, where Spring will eventually arrive!
Having said all that, the new guideline also means more time to complete all those jobs that have been put on the ‘back burner’ over the years and one being the new FBOG website. I have been working closely with our web designer Sam and finally I think it is ready to go live. It is still a ‘work in progress’ but the main pages are there. The front page does not have a photo yet, just the stark warning re the virus guidelines but we have retained some of the articles from the old site and some old and new information pages. A new feature is our Twitter feed link which will act as our recent sightings (very few in these trying times), so somebody does not have to sit and compose a daily record (although there is still a possibility of the latter if we have a willing volunteer)
The bird checklist is still being updated and eventually it will have links to a gallery of images from past and present sightings – the latter will be gleaned from our Facebook site available here – so please keep sending your pictures in.
In the meantime the old site will remain with a link to the new but all the pages will be inactive apart from some archive material. Please checkout the new site and any suggestion or help with articles can be emailed to me at the address below.
